| The 2009 Season schedule of the 23rd Summer Concert Series MAY 22 FORTE Smithfield’s widely acclaimed jazz combo, Forte, has performed throughout the mid-Atlantic region, but always calls Smithfield “home.” MAY 29 SMITHFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL JAZZ ENSEMBLE Young talent with a very cool sound. JUNE 5 GOSPEL NIGHT The Gospel Country Messengers and the Main Street Men of Music raise your spirits. JUNE 12 THUNDER CREEK This bluegrass combo has wowed the Smithfield crowd for the past three years and is returning for a rousing concert. JUNE 19 YORK RIVER BAND The York River Band is a top flight community orchestra that has performed in Smithfield for more than a dozen years. JUNE 26 THE RHONDELS Olden Days festivities open with this regional favorite group that always rocks Main Street. JUNE 28 LITTLE BIT OF SWING Glenn Boswick's band brings back the age of swing and the beginnings of rock 'n roll to close Olden Days. JULY 3 TIDEWATER CONCERT BAND A patriotic music program to precede the July 4th fireworks. JULY 10 U.S. AIR FORCE "BLUE ACES" COMBO Pure talent from a high-energy group of musicians. JULY 17 BILL GURLEY One of the region's top folk musicians. JULY 24 JAMES RIVER RAMBLERS, THE U.S ARMY DIXIELAND BAND Get ready to swing! JULY 31 U.S. NAVY FOUR STAR EDITION The Navy’s not to be outdone with a program of contemporary and classic rock and roll. AUGUST 7 PENINSULA CONCERT BAND Another friend of the series, the Peninsula band has been performing here for more than a decade. AUGUST 14 PIRATE SHOW Something new and unique for the Summer Concert Series... Cindy MacCool presents a family-friendly show featuring "pirate" songs and Celtic music. AUGUST 21 SOUTHSIDE HOMEWRECKERS Piedmont and Delta Blues is the specialty of this Richmond group making its third appearance in Smithfield. AUGUST 27 (Thursday evening for this concert only) NAVY FLEET FORCES BAND The Navy’s concert band has closed the series for the past six years. The concert is co-sponsored by the Town of Smithfield. |
